The Power of Time

The 24-hour day is primitive and antiquated. We send messages in matters of seconds. Through taps or clicks we have access to an immeasurable amount of information. With technology, we can complete tasks that would take how many eons to complete without?

But we still cling to the concept of a 24-hour day. I hear people say, “I don’t have enough time” or “I wish there was more time.” The problem isn’t the amount of time. It’s how one conceptualizes time.

Work expands to fill the time allotted for its completion.

What this means is, you will get work done within the given timeframe.

Push the due date up so there’s a greater sense of urgency to complete what is due!

An example is when someone receives news that they only have a year to live, they maximize and make the most of that year. We can use that same sense of urgency in our own lives.

How Can One Implement This In One’s Own Life???

By dividing the waking day into 3 to 4 mini-days

Examples of my mini-days:

Three Mini-days:

Day One: 8 AM – 2 PM

Day Two: 2 PM – 8 PM

Day Three: 8 PM – 2 AM

Four Mini-days:

Day One: 7 AM – 12 PM

Day Two: 12 PM – 6 PM

Day Three: 6 PM – 12 AM

Day Four (Sleep Day): 12 AM – 7 AM

By compressing time, I have zero time to waste on meaningless activities because I’m giving my time to my priorities. My urgency increases as I’ve shrunk the finish line. Over time, by implementing mini-days, I’ve tricked my mind into sprinting more. And in turn, I get more done.

I want you to imagine everything one can accomplish by living this way over the course of a year. How about five years? Ten years? Now, imagine an entire lifetime where one tripled their time with urgency and efficiency.

Time is our most valuable resource because our time is finite.

Lastly, sometimes I tell myself I slept for one whole day. This tricks my mind into thinking I had a whole day of rest. Or it increases my urgency because now I need to work harder and make up for a whole day of sleep.

So, there’s little psychological games you can play with yourself to gain even more advantages.
